As the title has managed to grab your attention, it is safe to assume that you are well aware of ‘what are backlinks’ and the impact backlinks have on your SEO campaigns but if you’re new to SEO stuff and backlinks, don’t worry because we are discussing backlinks below anyway.
What Are Backlinks?
Backlinks (also known as “inbound links” or “external links”) are links from other websites to your website. Search engines consider backlinks “votes” for your website and content, which can improve a site’s rankings in the search results.
Why Backlinks Are Important For Ranking :
- As mentioned above, backlinks are basically votes from other websites. Each of these votes tells search engines: “This content is valuable, credible and useful”. Higher the votes, higher the ranking of your website.
- Backlinks are one of Googles’s number one SEO ranking factor.
- Backlinks can improve amount of traffic coming to your website
Now you know what are backlinks and why do you need them for your website. But How to build backlinks?
Some of you might know that as well but the main focus of this blog is not to build backlinks but to build quality backlinks, because that’s what matters. In other words
“A single quality backlink can be more powerful than 10,000 low-quality backlinks.”
Let’s discuss how to get quality backlinks to improve your website ranking.
Trusted, Authoritative Websites:
Would you like to get a degree from university like Harvard or from any random university? Obviously from Harvard.
Similarly Google feels the same way. The more authority the site has, the more authority it will pass to your website(via Link). So try to build links to your website on trusted and authoritative website.
Target Keyword in Link’s Anchor Text:
Anchor Text is a visible text in a link.
What’s better than having our targeted keyword in the backlink of our website? Well it’s good to have backlinks from websites that contain our targeted keywords in anchor text but don’t go overboard with keyword-rich anchor text because google has filter in their algorithm called Penguin, which filter the websites that build lots of link with exact match anchor text.
Linking Website is Topically Related to your Site:
Google put much more weight on links that come from websites in your niche. So if you’re publishing article or blog about “Software development” build links from websites related to software development, software houses rather than schools and colleges.
Create ‘Dofollow’ and ‘follow’ links:
Google and other search engines do not count ‘nofollow’ links in their ranking algorithm.
Links with ‘nofollow’ tag aren’t the valuable one. Try to make dofollow and follow links both because if we make too many dofollow links only than google treat it as a spam.
Get Links from different domains:
If you have a link from website xyz and you get a link from this website again and again, links other than the first time will have diminishing return. In other words:
“It’s better to get 100 links from 100 different websites than 1,000 links from the same website.”
Before winding up the discussion, let us remind you that developing backlinks is no more good for the SEO campaigns. Irrelevant links would affect your SEO and search engines can blacklist your website. Therefore, make sure you are building potential and relevant backlinks. Don’t go for quantity, go for quality backlinks.
